Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt
By: Michael Lewis
Publisher: W.W. Norton & Co.
Michael Lewis, the author of The Big Short, must have spent a lot of time on this book. His time with a small group of Wall Street boys who figured out that the U.S. stock markets have been rigged for the benefit of insiders and, since the 2008 meltdown and in face of the Dodd-Frank Act, have become more free to rip off Wall Street gamblers. Focusing on high-frequency trading, the group of reformers set out to outdo the swindlers by creating truly free markets that operate the way they should. The book is full of technical information about the workings of Wall Street and computers. It’s a tough slog but don’t get bogged down by it. Skim what you don’t understand and keep going, absorbing the general story. It’s remarkable. You’ll probably never put money in stocks again.
